STEVE HAZELWOOD

Steve is a San Francisco native and has been playing professionally in the Bay Area for nearly 50 years. In the 1970s, Steve played with Gideon and Power, a gospel soul band that also featured Mickey Thomas. At the time, Elvin Bishop and Gideon were roommates,
so in addition, Steve often played with Elvin as well.
Next, Steve joined Boots Hughston, a sax player for many renowned bands, who put his
own project together and toured throughout California for five years to support that effort.
Steve then played with Chicago Blues Power, featuring Applejack on harp, which often meant sharing the stage with Boz Scaggs. Then, Steve worked with a variety of bands in North Beach that included playing with Luther Tucker. At the same time, Annie Sampson
began using Chicago Blues Power as her back-up band, and Steve has been playing with her intermittently ever since, along with guitar player, Johnny V Vernazza, guitarist for Elvin Bishop.

Steve has also supported Lydia Pence and Jo Baker, and recorded two albums with Ron Hacker and the Hacksaws, and toured Europe extensively. With his growing body of work and musical reputation, Steve joined Michael Osborn, guitarist for John Lee Hooker, for four
albums and three tours to Europe, Canada, and all over the West Coast. While playing with Michael, Steve performed in countless festivals, including Monterey Jazz Festival, Monterey Blues Festival–playing many times with John Lee Hooker live and on recording.

Steve has played the famous Djurs Blues festival in Denmark with Ron Hacker and with Michael Osborn numerous times, and has shared stages the world over with John LeeHooker, Charlie Musslewhite, Luther Tucker, Jose Chepito Areas, Barry Melton, Michael Shrieve, Dino Valente, Sal Valentino, Elvin Bishop, the Lucky Losers, and many, many others. Steve has played on more than 50 recorded albums by Bay Area bands and is still
counting…
